Staff Smart Inc. (www.staffsmart.net) is seeking an experienced Workday Technical Architect . This is a FULLY REMOTE 12 mo + contracting engagement.

The Technical Architect, Workday will focus on data conversion, cutover and go lives, which entails:

  • Lead data cleanup
  • Lead data standardization into data gathering workbooks
  • Create data standards and gain alignment across the globe
  • Lead strategy for data models in system (job & comp)
  • Oversee data validations of data loads
  • Ensure long term sustainable standards of practice for auditing and keeping data clean

Key Result Areas:

  • Advises business data leads on best practices and oversees large data loads
  • Provides Workday design leadership and scalable recommendations to cross-functional teams
  • Creates and enforces standards around data, reporting, and process design
  • Develops reports and dashboards for business needs
  • Builds complex reports, dashboards, and conditional logic
  • Performs responsibilities involving the management of tenants (refreshes, refresh exemptions, renewals, cross-functional project coordination, etc.)
  • Mentors’ analyst staff to increase their knowledge of system and to advise on best practice
  • Authors solution design and architecture documentation with Analysts
  • Informs and maintains proper documentation and procedures regarding standards and best practices for platform.


Data Conversion Need:

  • Oversee Data Conversion
    • Create detailed data conversion & management plan
    • Lead and oversee data quality in data gathering workbooks and data conversion with data analysts
    • Lead data mapping to/from other systems (integrations) & oversee integration to Azure AD to ensure accuracy
    • Working with finance business unit to map current FDM to new FDM
    • Oversight & guidance for mapping workers to new FDM and worker types
    • Build data model for how data is mapped in system and with other systems
    • Build Audit reports and dashboards for maintaining clean data
    • Create data strategy & planning for both finance & HR (including cleanup, standardization, and mapping)
    • Advise on how to create repeatable and automated processes for data collection and preparation so that it is consistent and alleviates burden on business
    • Determine pros and cons of data flow models, and monitor data practices
    • Creating standards across all regions for worker data

Go Live & Cutover Needs:

Lead data governance, standards and policies to ensure data stays accurate and sustainable. Build sustainable standardized practice for data management so that the structure we build during Workday Global continues to be maintained. Put process in place for business to be successful in owning their data. Review changes that are proposed to ensure they fit with the overall data structure. Ensure data, security, and reporting are being maintained to the overall data structure.

Develop Data Strategy

  • Really understand clients data in order to build standards
  • Creating governance for best practices on data changes for maintaining clean and accurate data
  • Work with business units to build processes for monitoring, measuring, and reporting compliance data and long term maintenance of data
  • Gain buy-in from business executives for sustaining data strategy for clean data
  • Work with vendor to build governance for security structure that is sustainable
  • Build reporting governance and process to ensure reporting catalogue is maintainable
  • Setting up report naming standards and ensuring reports stay consistent and clean including auditing unused reports regularly

Networking & Partnership:

  • Develop networks with other customers within the Workday Community to leverage best practices
  • Direct the work of external consultants (as needed)
  • Partner with Finance or HR team to define and refine requirements for new features and enhancements
  • Partner with Workday Global Rollout IT PMO team to serve as technical SME
  • Provide excellent customer service to business partners and staff by resolving tickets in a timely and effective manner

Policies and Procedures:

  • Documentation of Workday system processes and assistance to business as needed
  • Partner with internal Global Technology team to maintain system security and protocols
  • Advise on business process re-engineering for system enhancements


  • Project specific communications
  • Critical issue escalation and management
  • Build reports and dashboards to measure business metrics for the C-suite and other leaders
  • Serve as Technical Integration Lead on Workday Global Strategic Initiative

Training and Development:

  • Onboarding of new Workday HRIS and FINIS analysts
  • Oversee Technical documentation library

Documentation, Reporting & Data Management:

  • Maintain and improve the foundational Workday system structure
  • Stay apprised of each Workday release and system upgrade content and cross functional impact
  • Develop and enforce integration standards
  • Develop and enforce build and design standards
  • Develop and enforce reporting standards
  • Develop and enforce security standards
  • Monitor and troubleshoot system integrations with Finance or HR vendors and other systems


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, FIN, Information Systems, Computer Science, related field or or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification;
  • 12+ years’ professional work experience;
  • 8+ years HR/FIN systems experience, including new module implementation, project management, issue management, communication, and change management (Prior experience with global system support and deployment a plus);
  • 5+ years’ Workday HRIS/FINIS configuration and requirements gathering experience strongly preferred
  • 2+ years of experience as lead on solution design and architecture

Technical Competencies:

  • Workday data architecture a must
  • Workday EIB experience/data template experience
